I strive to make beautiful, highly functional work that finds an intimate niche in people’s lives. It is shaped for inherent harmony and pleasing lines; the form inspires the surface and the surface enhances the form. The decoration is often a reflection of my love of the natural world and the belief in the restorative power of being outside. It is my desire to share the pleasure I take in noticing my environment and call people’s attention to nature so they will value it as I do.

As an architect and artist, I’m always looking for the interrelationships of natural and industrial forms and structures. I use sterling silver and found materials to make wearable sculptures based on the dynamic geometric and architectural shapes of rural buildings – containers that process seasonal cycles of food, water and fuel – man-made extensions of the natural systems of streams, soils and plants that define the Minnesota rural environment in which I live.

I have created jewelry since childhood and established my business, Lawrenz Jewelry in 2003.  With my jewelry, I find gratification in bringing together unexpected components. My current collections feature unusual gemstones, glass, and colorful metal pieces that I upcycle from decorative tins.
