Jenny Bulfer

Jenny Bulfer is a painter/potter residing in Waseca, Minnesota. She attended school at Viterbo University where she completed a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts. She is a Resident Artist at the Waseca Art Center where she teaches wheel thrown pottery. Jenny brings the world around her into her work. In her paintings, she uses oils and canvas to recreate both the place she is now and the places she has been.

My work dances the line between real and abstract; between the remembered and the imagined. My subject is the natural world, and I am fascinated by the idea that any one landscape captures a fleeting moment — in a place that’s subject to steady change by light, weather, seasons, and human intervention.

Joyful experimentation with color and texture is my painting process. I start each piece using photos and memories of specific places—often the lands around my childhood home in rural Minnesota.

Christine Stanton

My most frequent medium of choice are watercolor and acrylic paint. My subject matter comes from my own intuition, but my background in graphic art influences structure and layout. Combined with my experience as a decorative painter and calligraphy artist, that structure ends up being invited to dance with the less structured, freer wispy strokes. The process of bringing abstract shapes and colors together into a cohesive whole often creates a little “aha” that fuels further exploration.
